Itaewon Nightlife Guide in Seoul: Clubs, Bars, Music & Late-Night Tips

Itaewon nightlife is one of the most diverse after-dark scenes in Seoul. You can spend the night dancing to K-pop and hip-hop, meet travelers at international party bars, hear live jazz on a date, or follow a DJ lineup into one of Seoul’s underground house and techno clubs.

That variety is what makes Itaewon different. Some venues are casual and social, while places such as Cakeshop, Faust and other underground clubs attract people who come specifically for the music and DJs. Itaewon also tends to have a broader age mix than many nightlife spots in Hongdae, and most venues are comfortable with international visitors as long as you meet the legal age and ID requirements.

This guide helps you choose a venue by music, crowd, atmosphere and purpose, rather than simply ranking the “best clubs.” You’ll also find practical information on foreigner entry, age policies, dress codes, cover charges, venue history, addresses, late-night transport, and how to move between Hongdae and Itaewon in the same night.

Because Seoul nightlife changes quickly, clubs can close, relocate, rebrand or change their music and door policies. Venue information in this guide is checked for current operation, but you should still check the latest event lineup or official social media before making a special trip.

What Kind of Itaewon Night Do You Want?

You do not need to visit the “most famous” club to have a good night in Itaewon. Start with the music and atmosphere you actually want, then check that night’s lineup before you go.

Quick tip: For places such as Cakeshop, Faust, BBCB and SOAP, the DJ lineup matters as much as the venue itself. The music can change significantly from one event to the next, so check the latest lineup before choosing where to spend your night.

Itaewon is also one of the easiest nightlife areas in Seoul for international visitors. Most venues attract a mix of Koreans, expats and travelers, and unlike some Hongdae clubs, an upper age limit is not a typical district-wide rule. Individual venues can still change their door policies or event rules.

What Itaewon Nightlife Is Really Like

Itaewon is not just a nightlife district for foreigners. It has one of the broadest mixes of nightlife in Seoul, from mainstream hip-hop and K-pop clubs to international bars, lounges, live jazz and underground electronic venues.

What makes Itaewon especially interesting is its music-first club scene. Venues such as Cakeshop and Faust regularly host local and international DJs, and a single club can sound completely different depending on the night. Recent Cakeshop lineups alone have ranged from techno and experimental electronic music to bass, Latin club sounds, dubstep and genre-blending events.

At the same time, Itaewon still has plenty of more familiar clubbing: hip-hop, R&B, K-pop, pop and social party venues where the main goal is simply to dance and have fun. That means you do not need to be an electronic-music fan to enjoy the neighborhood.

The crowd is also unusually mixed. Seoul’s official tourism guide describes Itaewon as one of the city’s most international nightlife areas, with pubs, lounges and clubs serving a diverse local, expat and visitor crowd.

The day of the week makes a huge difference in Itaewon. Weeknights are generally calmer, with more of a bar, restaurant and local-neighborhood feel, and some clubs may not open at all. Friday and Saturday nights are a completely different scene: the streets around Itaewon Station become much busier, major clubs fill later at night, and the area can stay lively until early morning. Sunday is usually quieter than Friday or Saturday, although bars, restaurants and live-music venues can still be active.

If you enjoy both neighborhoods, there is no need to choose only one. Hongdae and Itaewon are close enough to combine in the same night, and later in this guide we explain how to move between them by subway, night bus and taxi.

Itaewon vs Hongdae: Which Nightlife Area Is Better?

Hongdae and Itaewon are both excellent nightlife areas, but they offer noticeably different experiences. Hongdae generally feels younger, louder and more mainstream, while Itaewon has a broader mix of ages, nationalities and music scenes.

If your main priority is a specific DJ, underground electronic music or a more international crowd, Itaewon usually gives you more options. If you want busy streets, K-pop, hip-hop and a classic high-energy club night, Hongdae can be the easier place to start.

Choose Itaewon if: you care about the music, want a broader age mix, enjoy meeting both Koreans and international visitors, or want to move between bars, lounges, jazz venues and underground clubs.

Choose Hongdae if: you want a younger, high-energy neighborhood with lots of clubs close together and plenty of K-pop, hip-hop and mainstream dance music.

Want both? You can easily combine Hongdae and Itaewon in the same night. The two neighborhoods are close enough by subway or taxi, although getting a taxi from Itaewon can become much harder late on Friday and Saturday nights. We cover the exact routes, travel time and expected taxi cost later in this guide.

Best Itaewon Clubs by Music & Vibe

There is no single “best” club in Itaewon. The right choice depends heavily on what you want to hear that night. Start with the mainstream K-pop, hip-hop and R&B venues below, then move to Itaewon’s deeper electronic scene if the DJ lineup matters more to you than familiar songs.

The Mansion — Best for K-pop + Hip-Hop

Music: K-pop, Korean and international hip-hop, pop
Crowd: Social, mixed Korean and international crowd
Best for: Travelers who want familiar songs and an easy dance-club atmosphere
Foreigners: International visitors are common
Age: Legal adult entry applies; no consistent upper age limit is publicly advertised
Dress: Casual clubwear; no special public dress rule reliably confirmed
History: Exact opening year is unclear, but the venue has been operating for several years and remains active in 2026
Address: 2F, Hamilton Hotel Main Building, 179 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

If you specifically want K-pop in a general-audience Itaewon club, The Mansion is one of the clearest current choices. It mixes K-pop with hip-hop and international tracks rather than playing only Korean pop all night.

Gathering — Best for a Social, International Night

Music: Hip-hop, R&B, pop
Crowd: Very social, with Koreans, expats and travelers
Best for: Dancing, meeting people and staying out very late
Foreigners: Very common
Age: Adult ID required; no reliable district-style upper age limit should be assumed
Dress: Casual clubwear
Cover: Around ₩20,000 in current listings; can change by night
History: Established Itaewon nightlife venue; active in 2026
Address: 2F, 13 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Gathering is a better fit if your priority is meeting people as much as the music. It stays open very late and has one of the more obviously international crowds in this part of Itaewon.

SOLE — Best for Hip-Hop & R&B

Music: Hip-hop, R&B
Crowd: Dance-focused, late-night crowd
Best for: Travelers who want a straightforward hip-hop and R&B club
Foreigners: Generally accessible to international visitors
Age: Current venue information lists entry for people born in 2007 or earlier in 2026
Dress: Casual clubwear; check the latest event notice if unsure
Cover: Around ₩20,000 with one welcome drink in current listings
History: Exact opening year not reliably confirmed; current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: 5 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

SOLE is one of the easier choices when you do not want to study a DJ lineup and simply want hip-hop and R&B until late.

HIVE — Best for Mixed Mainstream Club Music

Music: Hip-hop, rap, house, EDM and mixed club tracks
Crowd: Mixed local and international crowd
Best for: First-time visitors who want a familiar mainstream club atmosphere
Foreigners: Frequently described as foreigner-friendly
Age: Adult ID required; no consistent upper age limit publicly confirmed
Dress: Casual clubwear
Cover: Current listings show around ₩10,000, but door prices can change
History: Current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: 2F, Hamilton Hotel, 179 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

HIVE is useful when your group has different music tastes and you want something more flexible than a strictly hip-hop or techno club.

Day&night — Best for Late-Night Hip-Hop

Music: Hip-hop
Crowd: Busy, dance-focused; crowd composition varies by night
Best for: Staying out late after other bars and clubs
Foreigners: Foreign visitors can enter, although the crowd may feel less international than places such as Gathering
Age: Adult ID required; venue-specific door decisions can still apply
Dress: Casual clubwear
History: Established current Itaewon club; active in 2026
Address: 26 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Day&night is especially useful for people who want to keep going late. Friday and Saturday hours currently extend well into the morning.

Deeper — Best for Music-First Hip-Hop

Music: Foreign hip-hop and dance-focused hip-hop
Crowd: Music-focused, energetic and relatively intimate
Best for: Travelers who want to dance to hip-hop rather than spend the night around tables or bottle service
Foreigners: International visitors are welcome and recent reviews frequently mention foreign guests
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual clubwear
Hours: Thu 8:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m.; Fri–Sat 8:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.
History: Current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: B1, 8 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Deeper stands out because the focus is more on dancing and the music itself than on the social or table-service side of hip-hop nightlife. It is a useful alternative if you like hip-hop but want something smaller and more music-driven than a mainstream club.

K-pop tip: Itaewon does have more K-pop-focused nights and venues, including some within Seoul’s LGBTQ+ nightlife scene. Because entry style, crowd and venue culture are different, those places are better covered in a separate LGBTQ+ Seoul nightlife guide rather than mixed into this general club list.

House, Techno & Underground Electronic Clubs

Itaewon’s underground scene is one of the biggest reasons serious music fans choose this neighborhood. Do not choose these clubs by name alone. Check the lineup for the night you are going. The same venue can move between techno, house, bass, garage, experimental club music and other styles depending on the DJs and promoter.

Cakeshop — Best for Genre-Bending Underground Music

Music: Bass, house, techno, garage, experimental and leftfield club music
Crowd: Music-focused, mixed Korean and international crowd
Best for: Travelers who care more about DJs and new sounds than mainstream hits
Foreigners: International visitors and overseas DJs are common
Age: Adult ID required; event-specific rules may apply
Dress: Casual and music-focused; no consistent formal dress code is publicly advertised
Cover: Commonly around ₩20,000–₩30,000 depending on the event
History: Open since 2012; one of Itaewon’s best-known long-running underground clubs
Address: B1, 134 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Cakeshop is not a club where you should expect one fixed genre. Recent 2026 nights have included bass, garage, experimental electronic music, baile funk and house. Check the lineup first. A great Cakeshop night for one listener can be completely different from the following weekend.

Faust — Best for Techno

Music: Techno, hypnotic techno, harder electronic sounds; lineup varies
Crowd: Music-first, late-night club crowd
Best for: Techno fans and travelers looking for a deeper club experience
Foreigners: International artists and visitors are common
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: No general formal dress code is advertised; event and door rules still apply
Door rules: Very intoxicated guests or disruptive groups can be refused entry
History: Founded in 2014 and celebrated its 12th anniversary in 2026
Address: 3F, 7 Bogwang-ro 60-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Faust is one of the better choices when you want techno rather than mainstream club music. It also operates with stricter dance-floor and conduct rules than a casual party bar.

BBCB — Best for Techno, House & Art-Focused Clubbing

Music: Techno, house and event-driven electronic music
Crowd: Underground, music and culture-focused
Best for: Travelers who want a smaller, less mainstream electronic-music experience
Foreigners: International bookings and English event information are common
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Avoid flip-flops or slippers; individual events can add rules
Cover: Often event-dependent; recent nights have been around ₩15,000–₩25,000
History: Current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: B2, 22 Bogwang-ro 60-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

BBCB — Beton Brut + Concrete Bar — presents itself as both an underground club and cultural space. Some events also restrict photography, so check the night’s rules before entering.

SOAP Seoul — Best for Bigger International DJ Nights

Music: House, garage, bass, funk, soul, hip-hop and genre-crossing electronic sets
Crowd: Larger and more accessible than some tiny underground rooms, with local and international music fans
Best for: International guest DJs and travelers who want underground music in a larger club setting
Foreigners: Very international-friendly in practice
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Some events prohibit open-toe shoes; check the current event notice
Cover: Event-dependent; recent 2026 events have ranged roughly from ₩20,000 to ₩35,000
History: An earlier Itaewon location closed in 2021; SOAP returned to a permanent Itaewon venue in February 2026
Address: B2, 217 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

SOAP is especially worth checking when a major international DJ is in town. Its 2026 programming has included artists and sets spanning house, garage, dubstep, grime, funk, soul and hip-hop rather than one fixed sound.

NYAPI — Best for Deep, Experimental & Multi-Genre Nights

Music: House, techno, minimal, acid, experimental and multi-genre electronic music
Crowd: Music-focused and relatively intimate
Best for: Travelers who enjoy digging beyond Seoul’s most famous clubs
Foreigners: International DJs regularly appear alongside Korean artists
Age: Adult ID required; check the specific event
Dress: No consistent formal dress rule publicly confirmed
Cover: Event-dependent; around ₩20,000–₩25,000 is common for current events
History: Celebrated its 4th anniversary in 2026
Address: 3F, 187 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

NYAPI is a good example of why Itaewon rewards people who check the lineup rather than searching only for the biggest club name.

Pistil — Best for a Warmer House & Lounge Vibe

Music: House, disco, techno and selector-driven sets
Crowd: Music-focused but more relaxed and intimate than a large club
Best for: Travelers who like Cakeshop’s music culture but want a smaller lounge-style room
Foreigners: International DJs and visitors are common
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual
Hours: Usually Thu–Sat; check the latest event before going
Cover: Often free before a set time, then around ₩10,000 on regular nights; event pricing varies
History: Long-running Itaewon bar and lounge; active in 2026
Address: B1, 9 Bogwang-ro 59-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Pistil is a good choice when you want serious selectors and dance music without the intensity of a larger club. Like Cakeshop, the lineup matters more than a fixed genre label.

Hertz — Best for House, Acid & Deep Club Music

Music: House, acid, dub techno and underground club music
Crowd: Music-first and late-night
Best for: House fans and travelers who follow DJs rather than mainstream club names
Foreigners: International guest DJs regularly appear
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual clubwear
Cover: Commonly around ₩15,000–₩25,000 depending on the event
Hours: Usually opens around midnight on Fri–Sat
History: Current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: 1F, 21 Usadan-ro 14-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Hertz is especially strong for house and deeper underground bookings. Recent 2026 events have ranged from warm house sessions to acid and dub techno, so check the lineup before choosing the night.

Teller — Best for Intimate House & Techno

Music: House and techno
Crowd: Small, music-focused and intimate
Best for: Travelers who want good sound and carefully curated DJs without a huge crowd
Foreigners: International guest DJs appear regularly
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual
Cover: Usually around ₩15,000–₩25,000; larger guest-DJ nights may cost more
Hours: Fri–Sat 10:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m.
History: Active throughout 2026 with frequent house and techno events
Address: B1, 39 Usadan-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Teller is one of the better options if you prefer a small room, strong sound system and carefully selected house or techno lineup rather than a big-room club.

Grain Haus — Best for Genre-Crossing New-School Club Nights

Music: House, UK garage, hip-hop, breaks and genre-crossing club music
Crowd: Fashion-conscious, music-focused and event-driven
Best for: Travelers who want newer Seoul club culture rather than a fixed traditional club format
Foreigners: International visitors can attend; event rules vary
Age: No minors
Dress: Dress-up encouraged; slippers and inappropriate attire may be refused at some events
Cover: Often around ₩20,000–₩30,000 depending on the event
History: Active new-generation Itaewon venue in 2026
Address: 1F, 40 Usadan-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Grain Haus deliberately avoids sticking to one genre. Recent events have mixed UK garage, hip-hop, house and other club sounds, so it is another place where the specific lineup matters more than the venue label.

Paper — Best for House Music with a Rooftop

Music: House, deep house and electronic
Crowd: Intimate, relaxed and music-focused
Best for: House fans who want a smaller club with a rooftop atmosphere
Foreigners: International visitors and guest DJs are common
Age: No minors
Dress: Casual
Cover: Usually around ₩10,000–₩15,000; some events include one drink
Hours: Mainly Fri–Sat nights, with occasional special events on other days
History: Current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: Rooftop / 6F, 37 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Paper is unusual because it combines underground house music with a rooftop setting. It is a useful alternative when you want good DJs but prefer a smaller, less intense space than a dark basement club.

More Underground Venues Worth Checking

If you want to go deeper, also check Volnost for techno and hypnotic/minimal sounds, Shelter for techno and harder rave-oriented nights, Bolero for highly varied club events, and Ring for techno, electro and vinyl-focused bookings. These venues can change character dramatically depending on the promoter and DJ, so treat the event lineup as more important than a fixed genre label.

Crowded electronic music club dance floor with spotlights

Bars, Lounges & Social Nightlife

PROST Pub & Grill — Best for Starting the Night

Vibe: European-style pub, food, beer, cocktails and music
Crowd: Korean and international; relaxed and social
Best for: Dinner and drinks before clubbing, groups, meeting friends
Foreigners: Very common
Age: Minors not allowed
Dress: Casual
History: Long-running Itaewon pub; current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: 1F, Hamilton Hotel Annex, 26 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

PROST is useful when you want to start slowly rather than walking straight into a club. On Friday and Saturday it stays open until early morning, so it can also work as a late-night fallback.

Glam Lounge — Best for Cocktails & a More Polished Night

Music: House, deep house and tech house
Vibe: Large upscale lounge with a DJ booth, cocktails and dining
Crowd: Mixed Korean and international crowd; generally more polished than a casual party pub
Best for: Couples, dates, cocktails and travelers who want music without a packed underground dance floor
Foreigners: International visitors are common
Age: Minors not allowed
Dress: Smart casual is the safer choice
History: One of Itaewon’s long-running large-scale lounge clubs
Address: 2F, Hamilton Hotel Annex, 26 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Glam is a good middle ground between a cocktail bar and a club. You can stay for drinks and conversation or continue later as the music and crowd build.

Thursday Party Itaewon — Best for Meeting People

Vibe: Casual party pub with drinks, games and upbeat music
Crowd: Very international and social
Best for: Solo travelers, younger groups and people who want to meet others before going clubbing
Foreigners: Very common
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual
History: Part of a long-running Korean party-pub chain; Itaewon branch active in 2026
Address: 6 Itaewon-ro 27-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Thursday Party is not a serious music club. Its main strength is that it is easy to walk into, have a drink and start talking to people, which makes it useful for solo travelers or a first stop in Itaewon.

Casa Corona Seoul — Best for Rooftop Drinks

Vibe: Rooftop bar and lounge with cocktails and a relaxed international atmosphere
Crowd: Mixed Korean and international crowd
Best for: Dates, groups, sunset-to-night drinks and people who want a break from dark club interiors
Foreigners: Very common
Age: Adult venue
Dress: Casual to smart casual
History: Established Itaewon rooftop venue; current operation confirmed in 2026
Address: 4F, 7 Bogwang-ro 60-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Casa Corona is a better choice when you want conversation, drinks and open-air atmosphere rather than a full club night. It is also only a short walk from Itaewon Station.

Tip: A common Itaewon night is to start at a pub or lounge around 9–11 p.m. and move to a club after midnight. On Friday and Saturday, the difference in crowd size after midnight can be dramatic.

Live Jazz & Date-Night Music

Itaewon nightlife is not only about DJs and dance floors. If you want to sit down, have a drink and actually listen to live music, the area also has some of Seoul’s best-known jazz venues.

All That Jazz — Best for a Classic Itaewon Date Night

Music: Live jazz
Vibe: Intimate, seated and music-focused
Crowd: Couples, jazz fans, locals and international visitors
Best for: Date nights, drinks after dinner and travelers who want live music instead of clubbing
Foreigners: Very accessible to international visitors
Dress: Casual to smart casual; clubwear is not necessary
History: Opened in 1978 and recognized by Seoul’s official tourism guide as Korea’s first jazz club
Hours: Sun–Thu 6:00 p.m.–midnight; Fri–Sat 6:00 p.m.–1:00 a.m.
Address: 2F, 216 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
From Itaewon Station: About 330 m from Exit 3

All That Jazz is one of the rare Itaewon nightlife venues where the history of the place is part of the experience. It works especially well for a date because you can sit, talk between sets and enjoy the performance without committing to a full club night.

It is also easy to combine with the rest of Itaewon: have dinner and jazz first, then walk toward Itaewon Station if you want bars or clubs later.

Official All That Jazz Information

Boogie Woogie — Best for a More Casual Live-Jazz Night

Music: Live jazz, including upbeat piano-led performances
Vibe: Casual live bar with cocktails, whiskey, beer and food
Crowd: Music fans, couples and groups
Best for: A livelier jazz night without the underground-club atmosphere
Foreigners: English inquiry support is available
Dress: Casual
Live shows: Multiple sets every day
Address: 2F, 21 Hoenamu-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
Nearest subway: Noksapyeong Station

Boogie Woogie is a good alternative if you want live music with a more relaxed bar atmosphere. It runs several live sets a night, so you can build it into dinner or drinks without making jazz the entire evening.

Date-night pick: If this is your first night out together in Itaewon, All That Jazz is the more iconic choice. Choose Boogie Woogie if you want something more casual and energetic.

Can Foreigners Get Into Itaewon Clubs? Age, ID & Door Rules

Itaewon is one of the easiest nightlife areas in Seoul for international visitors. Being a foreigner is usually not a reason for refusal, and many venues regularly attract a mix of Koreans, expats and travelers.

Unlike some clubs in Hongdae, upper age limits are not a typical Itaewon-wide rule. Travelers in their 30s, 40s and beyond can generally find plenty of places to go. Individual venues can still refuse entry because of capacity, intoxication, dress, disruptive behavior or an event-specific door policy.

Under Korea’s Youth Protection Act, a person is no longer treated as a minor from January 1 of the year they turn 19. For 2026, that means people born in 2007 or earlier meet the standard legal age rule.

Bring Your Physical Passport

Foreign visitors should bring a physical passport for age verification. Current Itaewon club guidance warns that passport photos or photocopies may not be accepted, so do not rely on a photo saved on your phone.

Foreigner-Friendly Does Not Mean Guaranteed Entry

Itaewon clubs are generally comfortable with international visitors, but the door still has discretion. A venue may stop entry when it is full, refuse someone who appears heavily intoxicated, or apply special rules for a particular event.

The practical rule is simple: bring valid ID, arrive reasonably sober, dress appropriately for the venue, and check the latest event notice before you go.

Dress Code, Cover Charges & Practical Entry Tips

Itaewon does not have one universal dress code. Most casual bars and music-focused clubs are relatively relaxed, but premium or mainstream venues can be stricter.

For most places, clean casual clothes and comfortable shoes are the safest choice. The Seoul, for example, officially requires smart casual clothing and does not allow slippers or shorts. Underground venues such as Faust have their own scene-specific house rules, so check the latest venue notice if you are unsure.

How Much Is Club Entry?

A typical Itaewon cover charge is around ₩10,000–₩30,000, although some venues are free and major DJ events can cost more. The price may also change depending on the night.

Some covers include one drink, while others are entry only. Do not assume that re-entry is included if you leave the venue — ask at the door first.

Cash or Card?

Cards work at most bars and clubs, but a foreign card can occasionally fail at the entrance terminal. Carrying ₩20,000–₩30,000 in cash as a backup is useful, especially if you are visiting several clubs in one night.

Lockers, Coats & Valuables

Locker and coat-check availability varies by venue. In winter, avoid leaving your passport, phone or wallet inside an unattended coat or bag.

Because you may need your physical passport for age verification, keep it somewhere secure rather than leaving it with your outerwear.

For major DJ nights: Check whether advance tickets are available before going. Popular international bookings at smaller venues can sell out or develop long queues.

More Itaewon Clubs Worth Knowing

A few Itaewon venues do not fit neatly into one music category but are still useful to know, especially if you want a larger club, an easy social night or somewhere to continue after another venue.

The Seoul — Best for a Large Premium Club Experience

Music: Main Stage — hip-hop, R&B, EDM / Studio — techno, house
Vibe: Large, polished and more premium than most Itaewon underground clubs
Best for: Groups, big-room clubbing and travelers who want multiple music styles in one venue
Foreigners: International visitors can attend; normal door discretion applies
Age: Adult ID required; no published upper age limit
Dress: Smart casual or above; no slippers or shorts
Hours: Fri, Sat and nights before public holidays, 10:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.
History: Opened in late 2025 in the former MADE club space
Address: 221 Itaewon-ro, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

The Seoul is useful if smaller underground rooms are not your style. Its two-stage setup lets you move between mainstream hip-hop and EDM on the main floor and techno or house in the studio.

OFF THE RECORD — Best for Starting as a Bar and Dancing Later

Music: Mixed club music; programming can change for special events
Vibe: Lounge earlier in the evening, more dance-focused later
Best for: Groups who want drinks first and dancing without immediately entering a full-on club
Foreigners: Mixed local and international crowd
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual nightlife wear
Cover: Usually free; special parties and live events may charge separately
Hours: Lounge from around 8:00 p.m.; dancing from around 10:00 p.m.
Address: B1, 13 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

OFF THE RECORD works well when you are not sure whether you want a bar or a club. Current listings show the venue shifting from a lounge atmosphere into dancing later in the night.

POSE — Best for an Easy, Foreigner-Friendly Hip-Hop Lounge

Music: Hip-hop and mixed party music
Vibe: Small, casual and social
Best for: Travelers who want an easy-going lounge before or between larger clubs
Foreigners: Recent visitors frequently describe the venue as welcoming to international guests
Age: Adult ID required
Dress: Casual
Cover: Around ₩10,000 with one drink in current listings; party pricing can vary
Address: 1F, 12 Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

POSE is less intimidating than a large premium club and can be a good choice if you want drinks, hip-hop and dancing without planning your night around a specific DJ.

Fountain — Best for Groups and Social Bar-Hopping

Music: Mixed party music
Vibe: Multi-room bar and lounge that becomes more energetic later
Best for: Groups, social drinking and people who want movement without a serious music-first club
Foreigners: International crowds are common
Age: Adult venue
Dress: Casual
Hours: Opens around 6:00 p.m.; stays open much later on weekends
Address: 16-5 Itaewon-ro 23-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul

Fountain is better thought of as a large social nightlife venue rather than an underground music club. It works well for groups who want drinks, games and a lively atmosphere before deciding where to go next.

Old-guide warning: Itaewon nightlife changes quickly. The Seoul, for example, now occupies the space that older guides may still refer to as MADE. If you find a club name in an older blog post, check the current venue name and address before going.

Best Nights & What Time to Go in Itaewon

The night you choose can completely change your impression of Itaewon. Weeknights are generally calmer, while Friday and Saturday transform the neighborhood into one of Seoul’s busiest nightlife districts.

Some mainstream venues open throughout the week, but many underground clubs operate only on selected nights or when an event is scheduled. If you are traveling specifically for house, techno or experimental music, check the lineup before choosing the day.

NightWhat Itaewon Feels LikeBest Approach
Mon–WedMuch quieter; more bars, restaurants and local nightlife than packed clubsChoose a specific venue that you know is open
ThursdayA good middle ground; quieter streets but some strong club eventsGreat for music-focused nights without peak-weekend crowds
FridayBusy after midnight with clubs and main streets filling upArrive around 11 p.m.–midnight, then club after midnight
SaturdayThe busiest night; packed streets, busy clubs and harder late-night transportBest for maximum energy, but plan your trip home in advance
SundayNoticeably calmer than Friday or SaturdayBetter for bars, jazz, drinks and selected clubs than a full peak-night experience

What Time Should You Arrive?

For bars, lounges and places such as All That Jazz, 8–11 p.m. works well.

For mainstream clubs, arriving around 11 p.m. to midnight gives you time to get in before the busiest part of the night. Many dance floors do not feel fully alive until around 1 a.m.

For Cakeshop, Faust, BBCB, SOAP and other music-driven venues, ignore the usual “best club time” rule and check the event schedule instead. A particular DJ or set time may be the main reason to go.

Saturday warning: Itaewon is at its most exciting on Saturday night, but this is also when queues, crowded streets and late-night taxi demand can be at their worst. If you plan to stay past the last subway, decide how you will get home before you start drinking.

Going Out Solo in Itaewon

Itaewon is one of the easier nightlife areas in Seoul to enjoy alone. The international crowd and large number of bars, lounges and clubs make it relatively easy to arrive by yourself without feeling out of place.

Where Should Solo Travelers Start?

If you want to meet people, start at a social bar or pub such as Thursday Party, PROST or another busy bar around Itaewon Station before deciding whether to move to a club.

If you are going out mainly for music, there is no need to socialize first. Check the lineup at Cakeshop, Faust, BBCB, SOAP or another music-focused venue and go directly to the event you want.

If you prefer a quieter night, All That Jazz or a lounge is a much easier solo option than forcing yourself into a crowded dance club.

A Few Practical Solo-Night Tips

  • Keep your drink with you and do not accept an unattended drink from someone you do not know.
  • Keep your passport, phone and wallet on you, especially if a venue has no locker.
  • Save the location of your accommodation before drinking.
  • If a venue or interaction makes you uncomfortable, leave and move to another place. Itaewon has enough nightlife within walking distance that there is rarely a reason to stay somewhere you do not enjoy.
  • On Friday and Saturday, decide how you will get home before the subway stops, because late-night taxis can become difficult to match.

Solo does not have to mean staying in one place all night. One of Itaewon’s advantages is that you can start with a drink, walk to a completely different type of venue, and change plans depending on the crowd or music.

Hongdae to Itaewon: Subway, Taxi & Late-Night Bus

Hongdae and Itaewon are close enough to enjoy both neighborhoods in the same night. The best way to move between them depends mostly on whether the subway is still running.

OptionTypical Travel TimeTypical CostBest For
SubwayAbout 15–30 min depending on your starting stationAbout ₩1,550–₩2,100Best before the subway stops
TaxiAbout 10–20 min in light traffic; longer on busy weekend nightsRoughly ₩11,000–₩15,000 before late-night surchargesFastest and easiest for groups
N72 Night BusSlower than the subway; waiting time can be significant₩2,500 adult fareBest backup after the subway stops

By Subway: The Easiest Option Before Midnight

If you are already near Sangsu Station, take Subway Line 6 directly to Itaewon Station. The train ride itself takes about 12 minutes.

If you are closer to Hongik University Station, allow roughly 20–30 minutes for the full trip including walking and a transfer. Another convenient option is to travel through Gongdeok and transfer to Line 6.

The exact last-train time changes by station, direction and day of the week, so check your route on the night you go out rather than relying on one fixed last-train time.

Practical nightlife tip: If you want to experience Hongdae first and then continue clubbing in Itaewon, moving to Itaewon before the subway stops is usually much easier than waiting until 1–2 a.m. and trying to find a taxi. For more on Seoul subways, buses and taxis, see our Seoul Transportation Guide.

By Taxi: Fast, but More Expensive Late at Night

A regular taxi between Hongdae and Itaewon normally costs roughly ₩11,000–₩15,000 before late-night surcharges, depending on your exact pickup point, traffic and route.

Seoul regular taxis currently add a late-night surcharge:

  • 10 p.m.–11 p.m.: 20%
  • 11 p.m.–2 a.m.: 40%
  • 2 a.m.–4 a.m.: 20%

That means a Hongdae–Itaewon ride late at night can easily move into the mid-₩10,000 to low-₩20,000 range, and heavy weekend traffic or dynamically priced app-based vehicles can cost more.

After the Subway Stops: N72 Connects Itaewon and Hongdae

The N72 Seoul Night Owl Bus is one of the most useful backups for nightlife travelers because its route connects Itaewon Station and Hongik University Station.

The route operates overnight, with buses running roughly every 30–40 minutes. The adult fare is ₩2,500.

Do not wait until the last minute and assume a bus will arrive immediately. Night buses run much less frequently than the subway, so check the live arrival time before leaving the club.

Saturday Late-Night Taxi Warning

Saturday around 1–3 a.m. can be one of the hardest times to get a taxi in Itaewon. Thousands of people may be leaving bars and clubs at the same time, and traffic around the main nightlife streets can slow pickups even when a driver accepts your request.

If your taxi app keeps failing, walk away from the busiest club alleys toward a larger road before trying again. A pickup point with easier vehicle access can work better than standing directly outside a crowded club.

Also keep the N72 night bus in mind. If you are trying to return to Hongdae, it may be more practical than repeatedly waiting for a taxi match.

If getting home easily matters more than staying until closing, the simplest option is to leave before the subway stops.

Best Taxi App for International Visitors

If you do not use Kakao T, k.ride is a convenient taxi app designed for international travelers in Korea. It supports English, lets you search destinations in your own language, shows an estimated fare before you request a taxi, and supports credit/debit card and mobile payments.

This can be especially useful after a night out in Itaewon, when explaining a Korean address to a driver may be difficult.

Keep in mind that an app cannot guarantee a taxi during peak demand. On busy Friday and Saturday nights, you may still need to wait, move to a less congested pickup point or use the N72 night bus instead.

Safety Tips for Itaewon Nightlife

Itaewon is generally easy to navigate for international visitors, but Friday and Saturday nights can become extremely crowded around the main nightlife streets.

Watch the Crowd, Not Just the Club

On busy weekend nights, avoid stopping in narrow alleys, stairways or entrances where large groups are moving in both directions. If a street feels too congested, move toward a wider road rather than pushing through the crowd.

Follow police, security or crowd-control instructions if barriers or one-way walking routes are in place.

Keep Your Drink and Valuables With You

Do not leave drinks unattended, and do not leave your passport, phone or wallet inside an unattended coat or bag.

If you are carrying your physical passport for club entry, keep it secured on you rather than placing it in a jacket that may be left on a chair or coat rack.

Check Prices Before Ordering

Most bars and clubs are straightforward, but always check the menu or drink price before ordering. This is especially useful in busy late-night venues where communication can be difficult.

Itaewon Nightlife Venue Address Directory

Itaewon nightlife venues are concentrated within a relatively small area, but many clubs are hidden in basements, upper floors or side streets. Save the exact venue name and address before you go, especially for underground clubs that may have little or no street-level signage.

The directory below includes the venues covered in this guide. Because Itaewon clubs can relocate or rebrand, confirm the latest venue information before making a special trip.

Check Tonight’s DJ Lineup Before You Go

For Itaewon’s music-focused clubs, the venue name alone does not tell you what the night will sound like.

Cakeshop, Faust, BBCB, SOAP, NYAPI, Hertz, Teller and other underground venues can change dramatically depending on the promoter and DJs. One weekend may be house or techno, while another can move into bass, garage, experimental club music or harder electronic styles.

If the music matters to you, check the lineup on the same day you plan to go. Look for the DJ names, music genre, door time, ticket price and whether advance tickets are required.

Resident Advisor is especially useful for Itaewon’s underground scene, while a venue’s latest official social-media post is often the best place to catch last-minute schedule changes.

Check Seoul Club Events on Resident Advisor

Do not assume that a club is closed just because it looks quiet early in the evening. Many music-focused events become active much later than bars and mainstream nightlife venues.

LGBTQ+ Nightlife in Itaewon

Itaewon is also home to one of Seoul’s best-known LGBTQ+ nightlife areas, especially around Usadan-ro 12-gil, often called “Homo Hill.” The scene includes gay bars, clubs, drag-focused venues and other queer-friendly spaces, and it is especially popular with international visitors.

Because these venues have their own crowd, entry rules, gender restrictions and rapidly changing lineups, this guide does not mix them into the general Itaewon club list.

For current venue details, gender-entry policies, lesbian and women-focused spaces, drag shows and practical nightlife tips, see our Itaewon LGBTQ+ Nightlife Guide.

This is especially important because many older English guides are now outdated. Several once-famous Itaewon LGBTQ+ venues have closed, moved or changed names, while newer venues have opened in recent years.

Where to Start: Itaewon Nightlife by Area

Itaewon nightlife is walkable, but different parts of the neighborhood have noticeably different personalities. Knowing where to start can save you from wandering between venues that offer completely different kinds of nights.

Around Itaewon Station & Hamilton Hotel — Best for First-Time Visitors

This is the easiest place to start if you want mainstream clubs, social bars and simple bar-hopping. The streets around Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil include venues such as The Mansion, HIVE, Gathering, SOLE, Deeper, PROST and Glam.

Itaewon International Food Street also runs along Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil, just a short walk from the station. This area is usually the most straightforward choice if you arrive in Itaewon without a fixed plan.

Usadan-ro & Bogwang-ro — Best for Underground Electronic Music

Head southeast and east from the station if your night is more about house, techno and smaller music-focused venues. BBCB, Pistil, Hertz, Teller and Grain Haus are clustered around the Usadan-ro and Bogwang-ro side of Itaewon.

This is the part of Itaewon where checking the night’s DJ lineup becomes much more important than simply choosing the busiest-looking bar.

East Toward Hangangjin — All That Jazz, SOAP & The Seoul

Continue east along Itaewon-ro and you reach another useful nightlife cluster. All That Jazz, SOAP Seoul and The Seoul are all located around Itaewon-ro 216–221.

This makes the area particularly useful if you want to combine live jazz, a major DJ event or a larger club without returning to the busiest Hamilton Hotel streets.

Gyeongnidan & Noksapyeong — Better for Bars, Dates & Live Music

Gyeongnidan has a different feel from central Itaewon. It is better known for atmospheric bars, restaurants, craft drinks and live music than big mainstream clubs.

Boogie Woogie is in this direction, making Gyeongnidan a good option for a date or a more relaxed night before walking back toward central Itaewon.

First time in Itaewon? Start around Itaewon Station. Going out for a specific DJ? Go directly to the venue instead of bar-hopping first.

Itaewon Nightlife FAQ

Can foreigners get into clubs in Itaewon?

Yes. Itaewon is one of the most foreigner-friendly nightlife areas in Seoul, and international visitors are common at both mainstream and underground venues. You still need to meet the venue’s ID, dress and door requirements.

Is there an upper age limit for Itaewon clubs?

Usually not. Unlike some nightlife venues elsewhere in Seoul, upper age limits are not a typical Itaewon-wide rule. Travelers in their 30s, 40s and older can find plenty of options, although individual venues can always set their own door policies.

Do I need my passport to enter a club in Itaewon?

Foreign visitors should bring their physical passport. A photo or photocopy may not be accepted for age verification, especially at clubs with strict ID checks.

What is the best night to go out in Itaewon?

Friday and Saturday are the busiest nights. Thursday can be excellent for specific DJ events with smaller crowds, while Monday through Wednesday are generally much quieter. Sunday is better suited to bars, jazz and selected events than peak clubbing.

What time do Itaewon clubs get busy?

Bars and lounges are active earlier, but many dance clubs do not reach their busiest point until after midnight, often around 1 a.m. For underground venues such as Cakeshop, Faust or BBCB, check the actual DJ schedule instead of relying on a standard arrival time.

Do I need a reservation or guest list for Itaewon clubs?

Usually not. Many Itaewon bars and clubs accept walk-in guests who pay the door cover, but popular international DJ events can sell out or offer cheaper advance tickets.

For music-focused venues, check the event page before going. Premium clubs may also require advance contact if you want a VIP table or bottle service, but a table reservation is not normally necessary just to experience Itaewon nightlife.

Are there K-pop clubs in Itaewon?

Yes, although Itaewon is not only about K-pop. The Mansion is one of the clearer general-audience options for a mix of K-pop, Korean and international hip-hop and pop. Other venues may play K-pop as part of a mixed set rather than all night.

Is Itaewon or Hongdae better for nightlife?

Choose Hongdae for a younger, high-energy scene with lots of mainstream K-pop and hip-hop options. Choose Itaewon for a broader age mix, an international crowd and a stronger house, techno and underground electronic scene.

You can also visit both neighborhoods in the same night.

Is Itaewon good for nightlife if I do not like clubs?

Absolutely. Itaewon also has cocktail lounges, international pubs, rooftop bars and live-music venues. All That Jazz is an especially good choice for a date or a quieter night centered on live music.

Is it difficult to get a taxi from Itaewon late at night?

It can be, especially late on Friday and Saturday nights when many people leave the area at the same time. If taxis are difficult to match, move toward a wider main road, check the N72 night bus, or leave before the subway stops.

Can I take photos or videos inside Itaewon clubs?

It depends on the venue and event. Some underground clubs prefer a music-first dance floor and may restrict or completely ban photography and video recording.

Check the event notice before filming. If a venue places stickers over phone cameras or posts a no-photo rule, respect it and enjoy the dance floor without recording.

Final Thoughts

Itaewon is one of the best nightlife areas in Seoul because there is no single way to experience it. You can spend the night dancing to K-pop and hip-hop, follow an international DJ into an underground club, meet travelers at a social bar, or slow things down with cocktails and live jazz.

If music is your priority, check the lineup before choosing the venue. If you simply want a busy night out, Friday and Saturday offer the most energy. And if you plan to stay out after the subway stops, decide how you will get home before the streets and taxi apps become busiest.

Most importantly, do not rely on an old list of “best Itaewon clubs.” Venues in Seoul can close, relocate, rebrand or change their music and door policies quickly. Use this guide to narrow down the right type of night, then confirm the latest event information before you go.
